LYMPHOLOGY

Lymphologic diseases are characterised by a worsening of the flow of lymph in the circulating blood system. These impairments of the flow can be hereditary but are more commonly caused by surgery affecting the lymphatic system. Up until the end of the last century this damage was considered irreversible and patients were regarded as requiring lifelong, complex decongestive therapy.

Today however there has been enormous success in healing patients using surgical methods. This applies to two groups of this type of disease, specifically the often unrecognised lipoedema and the patterns of illness belonging to a secondary lymphoedema.
